John E. Kelly

Tom, I met you many years ago in the 70's when I was a young Sergeant in ND6. Through the years I have been privileged to run into you on many occasions and work with you in the Major Case Squad. It was a great office with many fine detectives and you were among the very best. The Marine Corps was another common bond that we shared. For those who read this take note that Tom loved the Corps and he loved Marines. When Marines in the desert were taking severe wounds riding in lightly armored vehicles Tommy put out the word that he needed bullet proof vests no longer needed by Police Officers to pad the vehicles. In no time at all he had more than he could have imagined and made several trips to Camp Lejeune to deliver them to vulnerable Marines. When he learned that "Baby Wipes" helped Marines in the sand he again sounded the call that resulted in a tractor truck load of "Baby Wipes" arriving in time for Marines scheduled to be imminently deployed. And it does not end there with Tom. He spent many nights and early morning hours sitting by the bedside of wounded and paralyzed PO Stephen McDonald to make sure that his breathing apparatus remained functional. There are endless stories of compassion and love he showed to his fellow men. Tom was not big enough and ,sadly, did not have enough time to do all that he wanted to do but he did all that he could with the energy and time that God gave him. Godspeed Tommy. Semper Fidelis Marine.
