Obituary for Nannie O'Neil Wiepz (Clements)

Nannie O’Neil peacefully and quietly departed this earthly life on Monday, October 25th, 2021, in Elmsford, NY.
Nannie was one of ten children born to the late George and Annie Mae Clements on January 22, 1939, in Amelia County, Virginia. Nannie left Virginia in 1957 for better career and educational opportunities. She found that her heart led her to educational vocations wherein she pursued a teaching career in Brooklyn, New York. She received her BA in Elementary Education in 1972. Her career as educator was not only rewarding, but it afforded her the opportunity to travel and to be a part of the change in the disparities in education for minorities and educationally challenged students in the NYC school system. After 35 years as an educator, Nannie retired in 1994 where she was serving and educating children with learning disabilities which was near and dear to her heart.

Nannie’s love for family and children was front and center within her life and home where she doted on two daughters Vanessa Johnson Sosin who preceded her in death and Denise Philp who is following in her mother’s footsteps as an educator.

Nannie was preceded in death by her husband Steven Wiepz, her daughter Vanessa Johnson Sosin, her parents (George and Annie Mae Clements), her siblings (George, Theodore, Jordan, Andrew, Ella, Cora Mae, Helen and Marjorie).
